Dr. Uli Helvoigt

Veterinarian/Owner

Uli is originally from southern Germany and moved to the interior of British Columbia in 1989.  She obtained a Bachelor of Science in Analytical Chemistry from UBC/UCC, and then continued on to get her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  Uli launched Tanglefoot Veterinary Services in the spring of 2009, and has watched it grow ever since. She has done advanced training in both equine and small animal dentistry and has completed a vererinary chiropractic course.  She has  also been involved in all kinds of activities from endurance and competitive trail riding, natural horsemanship, jumping and dressage to dog agility, flyball and obedience training, to marathon running and mountain biking.  In her free time Uli spends as much time as possible with her family – husband Nathan and children Oliver and Miranda.  She also has a house full with her two dogs, two cats, horses, and chickens.

Dr. Holly Munroe

Veterinarian

Dr. Holly Munroe joined our practice in July of 2015.  Originally born and raised in Nova Scotia, Dr. Munroe spent much of her time in 4-H Light Horse and also playing soccer and basketball.  She went to school in Charlottetown, PEI and graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2011.  Prior to starting at Tanglefoot Veteerinary Services she had been working as a mixed animal practitioner in Peace River, Alberta.  Her areas of interest include reproduction, dentistry and surgery.  When not working at the clinic, there’s and good chance you’d find Dr. Munroe out on a river fly fishing – she is very excited about living in the Kootenays.

Dr. Jasmine Hardy

Veterinarian

Dr. Jasmine Hardy joined Tanglefoot Veterinary Services in May of 2018. Jasmine obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary and graduated with great distinction from the University of Saskatchewan, obtaining her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2014.

Jasmine was born and raised on a family farm in Drumheller, AB and has been working as a mixed animal practitioner for the past four years in Ponoka, AB. Her areas of interest include small animal medicine and ophthalmology.

In her spare time Jasmine enjoys hiking, running, travelling and spending time with family, friends, her dog Specter, and her two cats, Jagger and Doug. Jasmine is very excited to be living and working in an area that is an all season recreational paradise!

Dr. Joanna Kouwenberg

Veterinarian

Dr. Joanna Kouwenberg is from Prince George BC, but completed High School in Abbotsford.  Joanna attained an Animal Science Degree at U.B.C and her Veterinary degree an W.C.V.M. in Saskatoon SK, later doing an equine internship at Gilbert, Arizona.  She then went on to practice as an equine veterinaria in Colorado Springs, CO.  Joanna and her family have been in Cranbrook since 2009, joining the Tanglefoot crew in the spring of 2013.  On her time off, she likes to keep company with her husband and 2 boys, ride her horse Smoke, cross country ski, and knit.

Dr. Cali Lewis

Veterinarian

Dr. Cali Lewis is the newest member to join our mixed-animal veterinary team in Cranbrook. Cali is no stranger to veterinary medicine as she has followed in the footsteps of her parents, Dr. Roy Lewis and Dr. Carol Shwetz, who are both veterinarians. Cali comes to the Tanglefoot family from northern Alberta with five years of veterinary experience. She practices both in small and large animal veterinary medicine, with a special interest in bovine and equine medicine as well as specialized training and passion for animal chiropractic care (both small and large animals). Cali has two horses of her own and a blue heeler dog named Steady. In her free time, Cali can be found riding her horses, hiking or paddle boarding with her dog, and partaking in all things outdoors. Cali is excited to be living and working in the East Kootenay, and looks forward to meeting Tanglefoot’s wonderful clients and their amazing pets!

Dr. Steven Chapman

Veterinarian

Dr. Steven Chapman was born and raised in Fort St. John, B.C.  Here, he got his first job at the local vet clinic.  In pursuit of becoming a veterinarian, he then went to UBC Okanagan and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.  He then continued to get his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2017 at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine.  After graduation Steven returned to Fort St. John to work as a mixed animal veterinarian for four years, prior to starting at Tanglefoot Veterinary Services.

At work Steven enjoys all aspects of mixed animal practice with a passion for herd health, and surgery.  Outside of work he enjoys outdoor recreation with a preference for hiking and fishing.  Steven has two dogs, Goose & Odin.  Steven and his partner Jaimie are expecting a newborn in June of 2022 and are excited for their family to be a part of the East Kootenays.

Dr. Sylvia Hurdle

Locum Veterinarian

Dr. Sylvia Hurdle graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1991. She earned a post graduate certificate in Laboratory Animal Medicine from the OVC in 2015.

Sylvia focuses on small animals ( dogs, cats, and rodents). Her special interests include diagnostic ultrasound, internal medicine, evidence based medicine and diagnoses and treatment of dental and oral problems.
