In our great clinic of veterinarians, technologists, assistants and client care representatives, there is also me. I am a helper.
My name is Donna, and I have been with Tanglefoot for four years.
You may see me outside sweeping, or up front stocking shelves. There are other areas where you would not see me, behind the scenes, as my job has many tasks. One of my most important jobs is keeping the clinic and the barn (“Large Animal” building) clean and tidy. This is important to stop the spread of germs that can affect the animals, co-workers and clients.
Everything from our dog runs and kennels, to our treatment areas and surgery suites, gets wiped down and sanitized after every animal visit. So we go through a lot of rags, towels and blankets – an average of 10 loads laundry every day!
Most of our surgeries are scheduled for the morning. By the afternoon, after the surgeries and dental procedures are done, it’s time to clean the suites, wash and sterilize our medical instruments, and get everything ready and in place for the next morning.
In between doing loads of laundry and cleaning, we also need to keep the surgery suites and treatment areas stocked full of supplies like gauze, needles, syringes and so much more.
As the day comes to an end, it’s time to empty all the garbage bins and recycling one more time. Then sweep and mop the floor. The clinic is clean, tidy, stocked and ready for tomorrow. My day is done.
Even though it seems like a lot, and it is, there is still time to chat with colleagues, talk to the pets who are with us for the day, or just pause for a short visit and maybe a treat or two. Nothing will put a smile on your face like a happy and loved pet.
