Dentistry
At Tanglefoot Veterinary Services we are pleased to offer equine dentistry, as it is a specialized field of veterinary medicine focusing on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of dental issues and abnormalities in horses. Our clinicians have found that performance horses reach their potential when regular dental exams are completed. Our clinicians have had additional training and mentoring to be able to perform this essential service for equine species.

Here is an overview of equine dentistry services that we offer at our clinic: dental anatomy, routine dental examinations, floating, tooth extractions, dental radiographs, and client education.
Equine dental floating is one of the primary preventative procedures in equine health, it involves filing down sharp edges, points, and overgrowths on the horse’s teeth to maintain proper occlusion and prevent oral discomfort, pain, and dental abnormalities. Floating is always performed under sedation or anesthesia to minimize trauma to the bone, teeth and temporomandibular joint when using power tools and occasionally manual rasps.
Overall, equine dentistry plays a crucial role in ensuring the comfort, health, and performance of horses by addressing dental issues, maintaining dental health, and preventing dental problems through routine care and treatment. We are pleased to have knowledgeable veterinarians that are skilled in this essential equine veterinary service.
